A quick recap
It’s been quite a while since I’ve been active on this blog. After an initial flurry of activity in my early vegan days, I drifted away from it as other priorities drew my attention. To be honest, the last few years of my life have seen some profound changes, and I now find myself in a very different position than when I took on my first veganuary. I had a few unfinished draft posts that I’ve dusted off and finally published. And I’ve spruced the site up a bit. Quick wins.
So where am I now? Well, I had a pretty clear goal in mind when I started doing this; put out some ‘content’ about being a vegan from the perspective of someone who still likes to eat meat; someone who didn’t migrate to the vegan wilderness because of ethical concerns about animal agriculture, or existential anxieties about climate change. Hopefully lend some encouragement to others like me who want to change their diet for more health-based reasons and give support to those who have already made the leap. Changing to eating plant-based is a huge adjustment, and I’m not ashamed to admit that in the intervening years since I last posted here, I’ve fallen back to vegetarianism many times. I even fell entirely off the wagon once and had a fish supper on a family holiday.
Importantly, my perspective has changed over the last four or so years. I no longer rely so heavily on meat replacements, preferring instead to get as much basic natural protein into my meals as possible. I have some new thoughts on processed vegan foods and will write separate posts about them. I’m also hoping to give more insight into how this shift in my meal planning has both challenged and motivated me.
I think it’s important when you have a blog that you have something you actually want to say, and for a while there, I didn’t. Now, I think I do. So, after a quick spring clean of the site, and jotting down a few notes, I’m ready to carry on…
